BLACKWiFi – Savannah Region Community Hotspot Deployment
BLACKWiFi implemented a Community WiFi connectivity project in the Savannah Region, focusing on Tuntumba and Camp communities. The deployment was carried out between February 2025 and March 2026 and involved the installation of 18 community hotspot points across the two communities.
The project utilized Starlink for internet connectivity, supported by MikroTik networking equipment, including MikroTik RB5009, NetMetal AX and SXT sq 5 ax, together with Wavlink AX3000 access equipment. Two 18-metre free-standing towers, one in each community, were also constructed to support wireless distribution and improve network coverage.
The activities focused on establishing reliable outdoor WiFi infrastructure, configuring wireless links, expanding community coverage, testing connectivity and making internet access available to residents, students, businesses and other community users.

Activities in the region
The project encouraged participation from residents and community stakeholders throughout the deployment. Community members supported the identification of suitable locations for hotspot points and tower infrastructure and participated in the adoption and use of the newly established connectivity services.
The availability of community WiFi has created opportunities for residents to access online education, digital services, social communication, online business platforms and other internet-based resources. The project also provided communities with greater exposure to the benefits and opportunities associated with digital connectivity.
Community participation remains an important component of the BLACKWiFi model, as local involvement helps ensure that network infrastructure is positioned according to community needs and can be maintained and expanded sustainably.
Community participation
Local stakeholders help identify coverage priorities and support practical, sustainable access for residents, learners, and businesses.
Local operator development
Community members can participate in user support, voucher access, and day-to-day network operations.
